Make LISTENING a Practise!

Image
THE the kind of leadership needed in today’s world (and yesterday’s and the future’s as well)  must begin with the people we are trying to serve.  And that means listening to them, even if it isn’t comfortable, even if we don’t like them. We should think about organizing listening tours in the developing world for those in power – CEOs, government leaders, executive directors of powerful non-profit organizations.  The point of such tours would be not to determine solutions after a few days’ exposure to the place, but simply to listen to what local people say, what they feel, what they articulate as their needs and desires.  We might all learn a lot, not only about other communities, but also about ourselves.

“Disability is a matter of perception. If you can do just one thing well, you’re needed by someone .” - Martina Navratilova The ‘differently abled’ section of the community is ostracized and not included in the society. Not just the society is insensitive to them but also their families neglect them. They do not have access to basic education or vocational training and hence no scope to be self dependent. The ‘differently abled’ persons particularly in rural areas are poverty stricken.  If they are not provided with proper means to earn their livelihood then they will be caught in the vicious circle of poverty and will not be able to come out of this. ‘Narayan Seva Sansthan’ started its journey in 1985. At that time, it was carrying out programs of free distribution of food grains, medicines etc. to the poor & needy and ‘free of cost’ corrective surgeries of the polio patients and to other ‘by birth’ disability patients. But then ‘Narayan Seva

Our life is a gradual succession of stages which metamorphosis us into something we are today. We continuously evolve different ways to make a better today, create a better world for us, secure better jobs, and have happy families and what not.  We always resolve to do something to make ourselves happier and better. We redirect and focus our energies to transform into a better individual. But there are sections of society, who don’t dream, who don’t resolve, don’t make promises because they are ‘differently-abled’ and are born and brought up with constant neglections, which ravages their self confidence. Their life remains in consternation until and unless someone helps them, heals them.  “True joy comes your way, when you inspire, encourage and guide someone else on a path that benefits him or her.” Since its inception Narayan Seva Sansthan has focused on standard rehabilitation and is today an internationally acclaimed specialized rehabilitation centre for the
